1 Brown Family

Main Character: Frederick Brown born 1819 in Virginia or Kentucky.

Based on my timeline of where he was born and where he was living in 1840, I believe that Frederick’s family moved into Missouri via the Trail of Tears through southern Illinois. The timing was right. The Trail of Tears occurred from September 1838 – January 1839. Frederick’s father and mother were in Taney County, Missouri in 1840.

Many Cherokee Indians “escaped” the movement and did not go to Oklahoma with the main body. Because my Brown family choose not to go, they are not listed on the Cherokee rolls. My family is a part of the Lost Cherokee of Missouri and Arkansas. The U.S. government won’t give us legal rights to our ancestry, but it can’t take away our blood rights. My family research and family stories are enough for me to know we are Cherokee!
